FLS-Manhattan (Manhattan Language Institute)
New York City is a world-class center of theater, art, finance, cuisine and entertainment. For over 200 years, the city has been a major part of American culture, business and history. Now, FLS is pleased to announce our newest school, set in the middle of Manhattan's bustling neighborhoods.
FLS International Manhattan Language Institute is located between the colorful cultural districts of Little Italy and Chinatown, one of the largest ethnic neighborhoods in the U.S. With just a short walk from the center, students can explore such famous districts as Wall Street, Broadway and Greenwich Village. Students can easily use the vast subway and transit system to enjoy all the experiences New York has to offer, from shopping on Madison Avenue to strolling through Central Park to taking in a major musical production.
For the ultimate American experience, nothing can top watching a baseball game in the new Yankee Stadium, visiting the Statue of Liberty or seeing the view from atop the Empire State Building. Students are sure to have an unforgettable time during their stay in the Big Apple.

모든 수업은 학생 개개인에 대한 배려와 학생들간의 상호작용 효과를 증진시키기 위해 소수 정원제로 이루어지고 입니다. 어느 학생이건 영어교육을 받는 동안 언제나 교사의 도움을 받을 수 있으며, 월요일부터 금요일까지 매일 6레슨(=5시간) 씩 영어수업이 이루어집니다.
▷집중영어과정(IEP-Intensive English Program)
학생들은 세계 각지로부터 유학 온 학생들과 더불어 연수를 하는 동안 자신의 영어실력을 향상시키게 됩니다. 학생들은 첫날부터 수업을 시작하며 영어로 말하게 됩니다. 역할연기, 짝을 이룬 수업, 그룹 토론, 발음연습 등을 통해서도 영어를 배웁니다. 수업은 구어에 역점을 두고 있어서 자신의 어휘력과 이해력, 자신감 등이 단기간 내에 향상되고 있음을 실감하게 될 것입니다.

ㆍ각 단계에서 말하기, 듣기, 독해, 작문, 문법, 문장구조, 억양 등 영어 전반에 걸쳐 실력향상

FLS에서는 정기적으로 사교 및 문화관련 특별활동과 디즈니랜드, 그랜드 캐년, 샌디에고, 할리우드, 뉴욕, 워싱턴 D.C 및 다양한 국립공원과 유적지 등에의 다양한 관광 및 명소탐방 프로그램들을 운영하고 있습니다.
▷대학입학 수속서비스
FLS의 학생상담 직원은 학생들이 진학을 목표로 하는 전문대학이나 정규대학을 찾아 입학지원을 하는 것도 도와주고 입니다. FLS에서는 여러분이 영어이외의 입학자격을 모두 갖추었을 경우에는 희망하는 대학에의 조건부 입학허가서를 받아줄 수 입니다. 전문대학이나 정규대학으로부터 발행되는 조건부 입학허가서에는 대학에서 요구하는 영어수준에 도달하면 입학을 허용한다는 내용이 명시되어 입니다. FLS에서는 학생들이 UCLA, MIT 그리고 하버드와 같은 명문 대학에 입학하는 데에도 도움을 제공해 왔습니다. |

미국 북동부 뉴욕 주 남동부의 시. 허드슨 강 어귀에 자리잡은 항구도시이며 미국에서 가장 큰 도시권의 중심지입니다. 맨해튼ㆍ스태튼ㆍ롱 섬의 서쪽 끝부분, 본토의 일부, 뉴욕 항과 롱아일랜드 해협의 여러 섬으로 이루어져 있습니다. 그 도시권은 인접한 뉴욕ㆍ뉴저지ㆍ코네티컷 주의 일부에까지 뻗어 있습니다. 뉴욕 시에는 정반대의 것들이 너무 흔하게 공존합니다. 지리적인 면에서나 인구통계적인 면에서나 세계에서 가장 복잡하고, 경제활동이 가장 다양하며 문화활동 또한 가장 풍부하고 다각적인 도시입니다.
뉴욕의 공립교육은 시민들의 사회적 출세욕을 생생하게 반영하고 있습니다. 시의 학교체계는 31개 학구를 바탕으로 이루어져 있습니다. 각 학구에는 투표로 선출된 위원회가 있습니다. 이들 학구위원회는 국민학교와 중학교의 행정업무를 담당하고 지역교육위원회의 교육감을 선출하며 교사들을 임명하고 학교의 증축과 개축에 관여합니다. 학교체계의 최고 행정책임자인 학장은 시 전체의 교육위원회에서 뽑습니다. 교육위원회 위원들은 시장이 임명합니다.
교육체계 안에는 장애자나 회복기 환자를 위한 학교, 직업학교, 사회부적응자들을 위한 매일학교, 수업일수를 늘이고 개별지도를 실시하는 실험적 교육 프로그램도 포함됩니다. 특별교육 프로그램은 9학년에도 적용되어 불우한 학생들이 대학입학을 준비하도록 해줍니다.
수천 명의 국민학교 학생들이 제1외국어로 영어를 배웁니다. 전문적인 것을 배우려는 고등학생들을 위한 미술 디자인 고등학교, 음악예술고등학교, 브롱크스 과학고등학교, 패션 산업고등학교, 공연예술학교, 뉴욕 인쇄학교, 요리와 해상무역을 가르치는 파크웨스트 고등학교 등이 있습니다.
뉴욕은 미국에서 유일하게 대규모 공립대학체계를 갖춘 시입니다. '자유입학' 방식을 실시하기 때문에 고등학교 졸업자는 누구나 성적에 따라 4년제 대학이나 2년제의 지역사회대학으로 진학할 수 있습니다. 2년제 고등교육기관으로 30개 사립학교와 8개 공립학교가 있으며 4년제 교육기관으로는 사립 95개, 공립 17개가 있습니다.
